Hysteric Seven: Dean Sameshima
Bound in a bright orange cover, Dean Sameshima’s monograph offers a seductive, yet non-explicit, entrance into male sex clubs hidden behind generic building facades found in Los Angeles. This book is not so much about sex or the people who inhabit public sex venues, but more an insightful foray into the way desire permeates spaces. My copy of Hysteric Seven has two Polaroids inserted as a collage. These added elements seem to signal Sameshima’s direct attempt at engaging with viewers, as if he’s inviting us into his world. Previously based in LA, Sameshima is now living in Berlin.
