Our Teen-Age Boys and Girls
Oddly offbeat seems to be an accurate description of Maggie Lee’s Our Teen-Age Boys and Girls. Published by Gottlund, this book features a heavy letterpress cover and a selection of found contemporary photographs of adolescents printed in black and white Riso. The images are paired with texts drawn from a classic 1940s psychology book on wayward youth. This hybrid juxtaposition of old-school printing methods, outdated thinking on child-rearing practices, and appropriated images of modern day youth combine to form an inventive reminder of the never-ending tension between the old and the new.
